Privacy Policy

Short version: your data is private to you. We never sell or share it, never show ads, and nobody else can see your receipts or payments. You can export or delete everything at any time.

What we store

  • Your account: your email address, a securely hashed password (or your Google sign-in), and the name you choose.
  • Receipts and payment screenshots: the images, screenshots and PDFs you upload.
  • The details read from them: merchant or person names, dates, amounts, tax, categories, notes, which app a payment used (for example Venmo or Zelle), whether money was sent or received, and a transaction ID if one is shown.
  • People and places you track: names, nicknames, relationship tags you add, and your corrections to merchant names.
  • Your settings: currency, Personal/Business default, budget, theme and custom categories.
  • App-launch updates (optional): if you join the iPhone/Android waitlist, your email and platform choice, used only to tell you when the apps launch.

We never store full card or bank account numbers — only the last 4 digits if they appear on a receipt or screenshot. Phone numbers shown as payment handles are shortened to their last 4 digits.

Who can see it

Only you. Database rules mean each account can only read and change its own receipts, payments, people and settings. Images live in a private folder tied to your account and are shown to you through links that expire after about an hour.

How AI is used

When you scan a receipt or a payment screenshot, the image is sent to our AI service provider only to read the details on it. When you use “Ask Fivebar”, a summary of your own data goes with your question so it can answer. This is never used for ads.

Where it's kept

Your data is stored with our hosting and database provider. It's encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and encrypted at rest. Fivebar is not end-to-end encrypted: our systems process your data so the app can read receipts, total your spending and show it back to you.

What we never do

  • No selling your data, and no sharing it with advertisers or data brokers.
  • No ads, no tracking pixels, and no third-party analytics that identify you.
  • No connecting to your bank — you choose exactly what to upload.

We use a small number of service providers (hosting, sign-in, storage and AI processing) only to run Fivebar. If you buy a plan, Paddle.com acts as our Merchant of Record: it receives your email, billing details and payment information to sell the subscription, manage billing, handle tax and send invoices. Card details go straight to Paddle — Fivebar never sees or stores them. We'd disclose information only if the law required it.

Export or delete everything

  • Export: Settings → Privacy & data → “Export all my data” downloads a ZIP with a spreadsheet of every receipt and payment, your people and merchants, and all original images.
  • Delete: Settings → Privacy & data → “Delete account and all data” permanently erases your receipts, payments, people, merchant names, categories, images, profile, any waitlist signup with your email, and your login. Deletion is permanent and can't be undone. Backups held by our hosting provider roll off within a short period.
  • You can also delete single receipts or payments at any time; their images are removed with them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under GDPR or CCPA) you may have extra rights, such as asking what we hold or complaining to a data protection authority. Most of these you can do yourself in the app; for anything else, email us and we'll reply within 30 days.
